5 Awesome FREE Home Bar Plans To Give You Inspiration!
Nowadays, you don’t have to be an expert craftsman to build your own furniture. With the abundance of free plans and video tutorials on the internet, you are able to learn any skill imaginable.
A lot of people shy away from building their own home bar for two main reasons:
- They think it will cost a lot of money
- They think that building a home bar HAS to be difficult
In this article, I will be going over 5 awesome free home bar plans to give you inspiration. Whether you follow these plans step-by-step, or you decide to make your own adjustments, you should be able to find a build that suits your purposes by the end of this article.
Home Wet Bar’s Detailed Bar Plan
Home Wet Bar is most commonly known as a store where you can find all the home bar equipment and accessories you’ll ever need. On their blog, they post a wide range of articles from gift ideas, to drink recipes, to home bar plans.
In this plan, they teach you step-by-step how to build an L-shaped bar. Within the article, you’ll find plenty schematics and diagrams that go over exact measurements for the bar.
They provide a list of equipment and materials you’ll need in order to build the bar. They have also provided detailed pictures of the construction along each step.
This Old House’s Home Bar Plan
This Old House is an excellent resource to find quality DIY builds and guides. Whether you are fixing a faucet, constructing a tree-house, or building a home bar, you’ll find great instructions on how to accomplish a project within your budget.
When it comes to DIY home bars, this build might seem a little pricey. This build will cost you $400 to build, BUT the end result looks like a bar you would pay $2000-$3000 for at a store.
The average do-it-yourselfer will take 16 hours to complete this bar. This Old House has provided detailed steps that are pretty easy to follow.
Just like Home Wet Bar’s build, you’ll get a ton of diagrams and pictures to help you along your way. This Old House’s website is very intuitive when it comes to how-to articles. Hovering over the ‘all-steps’ button will give you a nice grid of each step from understanding the schematics to adding finishing touches.
I liked the fact that This Old House included a video to go along with the build. This is very unlike the other builds on this list. If you take your time, following the steps of this build shouldn’t be a huge challenge. This build is still by no means easy. A beginner handyman might struggle with building this bar.
I also liked that This Old House included details such as what paint and stain to use as well as what type of bar-rail and foot-rail you need.
Along with all of these helpful resources, you are also provided with a downloadable cut list for this bar.
DIY Network’s Outdoor Tiki Bar Plan
If you want an authentic-looking outdoor tiki bar, The DIY Network has put together a very detailed article on building your very own outdoor tiki bar complete with a thatched roof and bamboo panels.
I like how DIY Network’s builds have a nice rating system at the beginning of their articles telling the cost, skill-level required, and time to complete.
I do wish they gave a number amount for the cost section instead of a rating. I’m guessing since only 2 out of 4 dollar signs are highlighted, the build is relatively inexpensive.
DIY Network has also listed the tools and materials you are going to need for the build. In their material list, they have supplied the proper measurements of wood that you need.
There are 19 different steps to building the tiki bar. In total, it will take about 2 days to finish this bar. This bar would make a perfect weekend project!
You’ll find plenty of high-res pictures for each of the steps. The build is pretty easy to follow along even if you are not a skilled craftsman. DIY Network made an effort to create a build that almost anyone can follow without feeling over their head.
At the end of this project, you’ll have an almost store-bought-looking tiki bar that will be sure to impress all of your friends.
My Outdoor Plans’ Simple Home Bar Plan
My Outdoor Plans is a very cool website I recently came across.
Instead of pictures, every DIY project consists of 3d CAD models along with measurements, instructions, and tips.
I like this bar because it is inexpensive and simple to build. If you have some basic woodworking skills, this project can be completed in a few hours.
All of the steps are easy to follow. If you scroll to the bottom of this build, there is a print function so that you can have a physical reference when building the bar. This comes in handy especially for making your own notes and adjustments.
Just like a lot of other sites we have went over, there is a section that displays the materials required, the tools required, and the time to complete this build.
With this build, there aren’t any complex cuts or difficult instructions. For how great this bar looks, it’s pretty awesome how cheap and easy it is to build.
When you have finished making the bar, you can upload photos under the ‘Projects Made From These Plans’ section. At the time of writing this post, nobody has uploaded their builds. Let’s change that!
Popular Mechanics’ Tiki Bar Plan
I debated whether or not I wanted to include another tiki bar plan on this list, but this one was too awesome to leave out!
Instead of going with the traditional thatched tiki bar look, this bar has a more rustic, old feeling to it. This bar is perfect for someone in the search of a non-cliche tiki bar.
Similarly, both the Popular Mechanics’ tiki bar and the DIY Network’s tiki bar has detailed steps with high-res photos. Following along with the instructions is a breeze!
Along with the great pictures, Popular Mechanics have also included a pdf file that go over the measurements. If I had to complain about one part of this build it would be that the plans don’t give you every measurement that you need. I was a bit unclear on cutting the rafters because there aren’t any measurements for them. The rafters in the plan also looked a bit different than the rafters in the pictures.
I checked out Guizzo(the creator of this build)’s website and found that he has the same tiki bar plan for sale. I’m guessing that the paid version has more precise and detailed measurements.
With a little bit of effort, you can work out your own measurements for this plan. The information provided still gives you a good enough idea on how to construct the bar.
So there you have it!
Hopefully you have been inspired by some of these awesome free bar plans. Just remember that building your own home bar doesn’t have to be a hard or expensive task.
