Looking for Tiki Bar Plans? Here are your Best Options (+ How to Build Your Own Tiki Bar Review)

Tiki bar plans

When you’re building something as large as a tiki bar, quality plans matter.

On Home Bar Lifestyle, we have gone over some basic free plans for building your own tiki bar. Today we’ll talk about the best paid plans.

So what’s wrong with the free plans?

Although the plans are pretty good for being free, they are nowhere as detailed to what paid plans have to offer. If you want to build your own tiki bar, tiki hut, or even tiki furniture, you’re going to want clear instructions, detailed pictures, and schematics with accurate measurements.

I’m almost guaranteeing the first thing you did to find plans is google “tiki bar plans”. How did I know that? Because that’s what everyone does when they want to find out information.

At the time of writing this article, I don’t see many good options on page 1.

The first result I found is from PopularMechanics and is an article about GuizzoMedia’s Tiki Bar build. It costs $15 and is 28 pages, BUT the design didn’t quite sell it for me.

I’m guessing one of the reasons you want a tiki bar is so you can bring that tropical vibe to your backyard. While Guizzo’s bar is functional, it was a bit too rectangular and boxy for my taste.

Ok. Now it’s time to find the perfect tiki bar plans!

Back to the drawing board…

tiki kevFrom my experience of writing a ton of articles for a home bar blog, you can imagine that I know every nook and cranny to the industry.

Fairly recently I came across an interesting guy who calls himself Tiki Kev.

Tiki Kev has an incredible amount of experience building tiki bars and even got the unique opportunity to build a bar for the TV game show, The Price Is Right.

On his website, he sells pre-built bars that cost anywhere from $2000-$10,000+. He also sells amazingly detailed plans starting at $24.95!

The best tiki bar plans?

Let me first start off by saying I am no expert craftsman. With that being said, I found the plans extremely easy to understand.

In the image above, you can see 3 different books. Tiki Kev offers an ebook on building a tiki bar, tiki hut, and building tiki bar tables and stools.

I choose to buy the Tiki bar book because it’s what I’m most interested in.

Initial impressions

As soon as I opened the ebook, I knew I made a great buying decision.

The screenshot above shows all of the chapters this book has to offer. I wasn’t expecting anywhere close to this much detail!

As you can see, the first chapters talk all about the materials you need and where to buy them. This is very useful! I especially found this section useful when it talked about where to buy palm leaf thatching.

Just by skimming through this book, I can notice an abundance of pictures along with detailed explanations on what to know.

At this point, it is apparent that Tiki Kev is no newbie to building bars.

But is it boring?

My biggest fear when buying ebooks is if the format will be ugly, the writing will be dry, and the overall content would be boring.

This is NOT the case for these books.

Like I said. Kev is no newbie to building tiki bars. He has a true passion for teaching people how to build their own tiki paradise in their backyards.

What is the end result?

“This do-it-yourself tiki bar building guide will give you all the detailed information you need to build a 8 ft. by 4 ft. tiki bar shown in the picture on the front cover. This bar includes 2 sets of cabinets, outlets, roof and upper and lower bar tops. This bar sells at retail for well over $5,000 but you can build your own for under $700, if you live in an area where palm leaves are readily available.”

No matter how detailed an instruction book is, if the end result looks like crap, you wouldn’t want it.

Luckily for you, the end result looks amazing!

If you haven’t read the quote above that I took from the book, the tiki bar will cost around $700 to make. That’s pretty reasonable when you think about it!

I blurred out most of the tips so I don't get sued!

Maintaining your tropical masterpiece

Another part that I love about this ebook is that Kev doesn’t leave you hanging. You’ll find a section at the end of the book called “Helpful Tips For Maintaining Your Tiki Bar”.

The tips aren’t as obvious as you might think. They will dramatically extend the life of your bar.

One tip I learned, that I would have never done by myself, is tightly covering the thatched roof with a large tarp for 2 days to layer the leaves without having to wait months for them to do it naturally.

You’ll find many other great tips and tricks you’ll find inside this book.

Free cocktail recipe ebook?

At this point I almost completely forgot about the cocktail recipe ebook.

Tiki kev throws it in as a freebie to go along with the book.

Let me just say that the recipe book is nothing to write home about.

From what I saw, it looked as if the recipe book was public domain. It was written by a completely different author and looked a bit outdated.

Even as I was skimming through fast, it took me friggin forever to get to the actual recipes. When I finally got to the recipes. there were no damn pictures!

I did find it funny how off-topic the recipe book was. There was a bar joke section!

(an  actual joke from the recipe book) -> One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints, and were stuck in the thick head. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer, and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink, held it out over the beer, and started yelling, “SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT!!!!”

In conclusion:

So is this book worth spending $25 for?

Just remember not to get excited about the free recipe book.
